Georgie Loves… Sun Bears

I first encountered the world’s smallest bear in Borneo late last year, in the company of the brilliant Dr Wong, founder of the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Native to South East Asia, sun bears spend much of their time in the forest canopy, sleeping and raiding bees’ nests for fresh honey. Sadly, huge swathes of this forest habitat have been lost over the last 50 years, contributing, along with poaching, to the sun bear’s now endangered status. Dr Wong has been working tirelessly for more than 30 years to rescue stolen bears and to protect the forest they call home. Sticky Rice Travel offers clients the chance to visit the centre privately to meet with Dr Wong and get up close and personal with these delightful animals - an experience I wholeheartedly recommend!
